David Jones

MP for Clwyd West

Public meeting to consider future of Colwyn Bay pier

22 December 2009

Colwyn Bay

Clwyd West MP, David Jones, has called a public meeting to discuss the future of Colwyn Bay pier. The meeting will take place at the Council Chamber, Rhiw Road, Colwyn Bay at 6.00 pm on Friday, 22nd January, 2010 and will be chaired by Mr Jones.

David Jones said:

“The issue of Colwyn Bay pier is one of the most important ones in the town. It is progressively deteriorating condition is a huge cause of concern to most residents.

“The proposals for the regeneration of Colwyn Bay’s waterfront cannot realistically go ahead without incorporating the pier. The questions that need to be considered, therefore, are whether the pier should be renovated and, if so, how? Where will the money come from?

“Alternatively, should consideration be given, as many people suggest, to demolishing it altogether?

“The purpose of the meeting will be to take the temperature of opinion within the town on this important matter. I will be chairing the meeting and want to allow as many opinions as possible to be voiced. Consideration can then be given as to how best to progress discussion over the pier’s future.”
